Gambhir feels sorry for Supergiants skipper Dhoni

Kolkata Knight Riders captain Gautam Gambhir has come out in support of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Dhoni, who is struggling to marshal his troops with his new IPL team Rising Pune Supergiants, is facing flak for his team's ordinary show so far.

After losing a couple of close games, the Supergiants are languishing near the bottom of the table having won only three out of their 10 matches.

In his column published in The Hindustan Times, Gambhir who guided KKR to the title twice has empathised with IPL's most successful captain.

On Saturday, Supergiants lost to the Royal Challengers Bangalore despite posing 191 on board.

According to Gambhir, one can't help feeling sorry for MS Dhoni after seeing the match where superstar Virat Kohli denied Dhoni a victory. Gambhir firmly believes that a captain is as good as his team and if the boys are not performing consistently, very little could be done.

In his column, he further wrote that if Dhoni had the core of his former team - Chennai Super Kings, which included the likes of Suresh Raina, Dwayne Bravo, Brendon McCullum and Ravindra Jadeja (all part of the Gujarat Lions now), he will be a changed captain.

Under Dhoni's captaincy CSK won two IPL trophies, reaching the playoffs in all eight editions. Dhoni even did a rare double in 2010, winning both the IPL and Champions League T20.

Season 9 though hasn't panned out the way Dhoni would have liked. Supergiants need an extra-ordinary showing in their final four games to qualify for the knockouts.
